The choice of gallery scripts you can opt to use grows almost daily and the needs of one person may not be the same as another. Consequently, I have bundled the Simpleviewer gallery system into the theme zip file, but it is not integrated in such a way that you ‘have‘ to use it. Additionally, at the time of this theme’s creation, WordPress 2.9 is in development and it appears that an image gallery is in the works.

Anyway, if you take a look in the theme files, you will find a directory called ‘photos‘ and then within this directory are 3 sub-directories – Abstract, Portraits and Quiet_London. An additional directory called ‘Blank’ is also in place should you want to use this gallery system.

The Simpleviewer method is relatively easy and simply involves uploading your photos/images to the sub-directory of your choice and placing them in another sub-directory called ‘images’. Check the layout of the sub-directories to see how this is done.

Once you have uploaded this whole subdirectory to your site, it is then a simple matter of choosing some on-screen options via a Simpleviewer panel. This is accessed by typing in the address of the gallery. Here is an example of how I built a gallery:

1. I made a copy of the ‘Blank’ directory and renamed it to ‘Quiet_London’. I had 55 photos I wanted to include in this gallery, so I placed them in the Quiet_London/images directory.

2. I then uploaded this whole directory [via FTP] to my gallery folder online, called ‘photos’.

3. Once the transfer of files was complete, I then went to this directory via my bowser by typing in http://themes.freshlypressed.net/photos/Quiet_London/buildgallery.php

4. The buildgallery.php file ia an excellent addition to this gallery system. You simply follow the directions in the panel and then set it in motion. The default colours have been set to blend in with this theme so all you need to do is adjust the gallery title and positions to suit your own taste.

5. It only takes a moment for the gallery to be built and once this is completed, you can view your new gallery at the gallery url – within this example it is located at http://themes.freshlypressed.net/photos/Quiet_London/index.html

6. Obviously, this is a nice looking gallery but it is not inside of your WordPress site. In order to add this to your site, you need to create a new post and wrap the gallery in an iframe. I used the following code to do this:

<iframe src="/photos/Quiet_London/index.html" class="galleries" frameborder="0" height="550" width="700"></iframe>

And hey, here is the gallery as it looks by following the instructions above….

You can find out more about Simpleviewer and how to do more with it – here.

The Gallery page is nothing more than an image and a link to each gallery option.
